Select a fan with higher CFM for larger or frequently occupied RVs—small campers may be fine with 300–600 CFM while larger RVs benefit from 700–1,200+ CFM; also consider using multiple vents for improved circulation rather than relying on a single high-CFM unit

Most electric vent fans are designed to coexist with rooftop air conditioners and standard vent lids, but verify clearances, mounting patterns, and whether a vent cover or rain shield is required or recommended by the manufacturer

Check the fan's current draw (amps) at 12V to ensure it matches your RV electrical system and battery capacity; look for fans with variable speed controls, reversible airflow, and convenient switches or wired/removable thermostat controls

Quality RV vent fans use UV-resistant plastics or powder-coated metal housings and sealed motor assemblies to resist moisture and sun exposure; check IP ratings or manufacturer specifications for water resistance and choose corrosion-resistant hardware for coastal use

Regularly clean the fan blades and screen, inspect and lubricate the motor if specified, replace worn gaskets or seals to prevent leaks, and check mounting hardware and wiring for corrosion or loosening at least once per season
