Ratchet belts provide finer incremental adjustment and a cleaner look without visible holes, which can improve comfort and fit; traditional buckle-and-hole systems are simpler, more widely available, and easier to repair or replace

Keep leather belts dry, wipe off dirt with a soft cloth, condition periodically with a leather conditioner to prevent cracking, and store flat or hung to preserve shape; avoid prolonged exposure to heat and direct sunlight

Look for lightweight, moisture-wicking, quick-drying materials, low-profile buckles for comfort and security, and stretch or ratchet systems for adjustable fit; anti-theft features (hidden pockets) can be useful for travel

Belts commonly range from under $20 for basic synthetics to over $100 for higher-grade leathers; higher prices often reflect better leather quality, metal hardware, and construction, but good value can be found in mid-price ranges depending on material and brand reputation
