Choose UV-stabilized polyethylene or polypropylene for outdoor durability; nylon is lightweight but can degrade faster in sun unless treated

Measure the area to cover including height and any overlap for anchoring; buy netting at least 10–20% larger than the measured area to allow for fastening and tensioning. Netting is sold by roll length and width—common widths are 6–20 feet—so pick a width close to the required span to minimize seams

For plant support and trellising, choose heavier-duty netting with larger, square or diamond holes and higher tensile strength. For protecting fruit and vegetables from pests, use fine insect netting or mesh with small apertures and lightweight material that can be draped or mounted over frames

Anchor the netting with stakes, ground pins, or clamped edges to eliminate gaps; use tension to prevent sagging but avoid overstretching. For raised beds or frames, drape netting over hoops and fasten with clips or cable ties; tuck edges into soil or use row-cover staples to keep small pests out

Inspect netting seasonally for tears, UV degradation, and accumulated debris; mend small holes with patches or zip ties to maintain effectiveness. UV-stabilized polyethylene typically lasts several seasons outdoors, while untreated materials and thin nylon may need replacement sooner

Garden netting spans widely depending on size and material; budget options for small rolls can be under $50, while heavy-duty or large-area rolls fall into higher ranges. Consider cost per square foot and expected service life when comparing options
