Lifespan varies by build quality and environment but many last several years; routine maintenance includes checking and tightening connections, inspecting insulators and wires for damage, keeping vegetation away from the fence, testing output with a voltmeter, and replacing batteries when capacity drops

Look for chargers with higher output joules and strong pulse voltage, fast recharge/pulse rates, reliable grounding systems, and compatibility with multi-wire fences; also seek units with fault indicators or alarm outputs to quickly detect shorts or breaches
