Base weight depends on umbrella size and wind exposure; small patio umbrellas typically need 30–50 lbs, medium 50–100 lbs, and cantilever or large umbrellas often require 150+ lbs or a secured mount. Common base types include filled bases (sand or water), slab or weighted bases (concrete or stone), and ground-mounted or in-deck sleeves for permanent installs

Common mechanisms include manual push-up, crank lift, and pulley systems; cranks are easier for larger canopies. For sun angle adjustments, look for manual or push-button tilts and 360-degree rotate or swivel features on some bases for flexible shade placement

Clean fabric periodically with mild soap and water, let it dry fully before closing, and store the canopy in a dry place or use a fitted cover during extended non-use. Close or secure umbrellas in high winds and remove and drain fillable bases before freezing temperatures to prevent damage
