Prioritize non-slip handgrips, secure locking mechanisms for folding models, easy-to-use brakes on wheeled walkers, and wide, stable bases; consider seat options, baskets or pouches for carrying items, and reflectors for visibility if outdoor use is expected

Have the user stand upright in comfortable shoes, set the walker height so the handgrips are at wrist level (allowing 15–30 degrees elbow flexion), and ensure the user can take a normal step without hunching; most models adjust with push-button or knob systems

Regularly inspect rubber tips or wheels for wear and replace them when worn, tighten fasteners and check folding locks, clean frames and grips with mild soap and water, and follow manufacturer guidance for brake adjustments and load limits

Standard walkers typically fall into a wide price range; budget models are often available under $50, while mid-range to feature-rich walkers commonly average around $60–$120 depending on materials and accessories
