Common formats include PVA (white glues) for paper and porous materials, clear craft glues for general use, fabric glues for textiles, hot-melt (glue guns) for quick bonds, and specialty adhesives for foam or glass; choose based on drying time, ease of application, and surface compatibility

Many craft glues are non-toxic and low-odor, but always check labels for ASTM D-4236 or AP non-toxic certification for use with children; ensure good ventilation for solvent-based or strong-smelling adhesives and follow manufacturer safety instructions

Store glues in a cool, dry place with caps tightly closed; keep water-based glues from freezing and hot-melt sticks away from heat. For bottles, remove excess glue from the nozzle before resealing to prevent clogging

Drying time depends on glue chemistry, layer thickness, ambient temperature and humidity, and material porosity; many PVA and craft glues reach handling strength in 15–60 minutes but can take 24 hours to fully cure for maximum bond strength

You can sometimes, but mixed-media work often benefits from selecting a versatile clear craft adhesive or using different adhesives for specific substrates (fabric glue for textiles, PVA for paper, contact or hot-melt for heavier items) to ensure secure bonds

For water-based glues, soften with warm water and gentle abrasion; for dried hot-melt, carefully heat and peel; for solvent-based adhesives, use the manufacturer-recommended solvent or rubbing alcohol on a test spot first to avoid damaging the surface
