Unplug the lamp before cleaning, dust the shade and base with a soft cloth or duster, clean lenses or diffusers with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions when replacing bulbs or servicing electrical components

You can find basic desk lamps under $50, midrange models with better adjustability and LEDs in the $50–$150 range, and designer or feature-rich lamps above that; the category average price is around the low tens of dollars to mid-range depending on features

Clamp or clip-on lamps save desk surface space and work well on thin surfaces, weighted-base lamps are stable and portable, and pendant or wall-mounted fixtures free desk space entirely but require installation and different lighting angles
