Match the bulb wattage to the lamp and shade’s maximum rating; LED bulbs produce less heat and are generally safer choices while providing similar brightness, but check shade materials and clearances to avoid heat damage

Consider scale (shade size relative to furniture), color and translucency (to coordinate with wall and upholstery colors), pattern and texture for visual interest, and the shade shape to complement the room’s architectural lines and furniture style
