Calculate total wattage by multiplying strip watt/foot by length and add a safety margin (~20%), then choose a power supply that meets that wattage and voltage; for mounting, prefer strips with adhesive backing for smooth surfaces or aluminum channels for heat dissipation and neater installation

For most indoor decor use an IP20-rated (non-waterproof) strip; choose higher IP ratings (IP65, IP67) for areas exposed to moisture or dust; also check rated lifespan (often 20,000–50,000 hours) and look for good heat management to avoid premature dimming

Cut only at the marked cut lines, use compatible connectors or solder for joins, maintain correct polarity, and ensure the power supply remains sized for the final total length; avoid cutting sections with integrated components like controllers unless specified by the manufacturer

Regularly check adhesive and re-secure if it peels, keep strips free of dust for consistent light, replace the power supply if strips flicker or dim, and consult the manufacturer's instructions for controller resets or firmware updates when connectivity issues occur
