Look for cradled or gallery-style edges if you want a frameless display; smooth, square-cut edges work well when you plan to frame the piece, and well-joined, reinforced corners reduce warping over time—avoid boards with visible gaps or loose lamination

Well-made wood panels are stable and less prone to warping than stretched canvas; care includes keeping pieces away from extreme humidity and direct sunlight, cleaning dust with a soft dry cloth, and applying a protective varnish or sealant appropriate to the paint medium

Prices vary by size, material, and construction: budget panels and small plywood boards often fall under $50, while thicker cradled or archival-grade panels typically cost more; average category pricing is around the mid-range of typical hobby and professional materials
