Pick the paper size that matches your binder (common sizes are letter 8.5x11 in the U.S. and A4 internationally) and check hole configuration (3-hole for standard U.S. binders, 2- or 4-hole for some planners, and 6- or 20-hole sheets for disc or ring systems)

For general note-taking and stapled/printed documents, 70–90 gsm (about 18–24 lb) is typical; heavier paper (90–120 gsm) resists show-through better and feels more durable for frequent handling or double-sided printing

Choose narrow or college-ruled lines for dense text, wide-ruled for larger handwriting, graph/grid paper for diagrams and charts, and dot grid or blank sheets for flexible layouts and sketching

Look for reinforced or punched edges to prevent tearing, pre-printed index margins or perforations for tear-out, and page counts or pack sizes that match how often you refill binders

Store paper flat in its packaging or a rigid box, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, and avoid stacking heavy objects on top to prevent bending and creasing

Bleed-through depends on paper weight and ink type; water-based pens and light highlighter use typically work fine on 70–90 gsm, while felt-tip markers and heavy ink may require heavier paper (90+ gsm) or tested sheets to avoid bleed and show-through
