Mounting Tape

Match tape type to surface and weight: foam or double-sided for uneven walls and lightweight items, heavy-duty acrylic or double-sided industrial tape for heavier objects; check manufacturer weight ratings and whether the tape is removable or permanent

Mounting tape works well on painted drywall, wood, glass, metal, and smooth plastics; avoid use on delicate wallpapers, freshly painted surfaces, textured or crumbling walls, and some silicone-coated plastics unless the product specifically lists compatibility

For small frames or lightweight items (up to a few pounds), a few strips or squares spaced evenly suffice; medium items may require multiple strips or full-edge tape following the product's weight per inch guidance; for shelves and heavy items, use mounting hardware in addition to tape or follow tape's stated total weight capacity

Removable mounting tapes are formulated to peel off cleanly and are labeled as removable or damage-free; performance varies by surface and dwell time, so test a small inconspicuous area first and follow removal instructions like pulling slowly at a low angle

High heat can soften adhesives and reduce holding strength, while very low temperatures can make adhesives brittle; humidity and moisture can weaken bonds—choose tapes rated for outdoor or temperature extremes if conditions are variable

Some heavy-duty and acrylic-based tapes are rated for outdoor use and long-term bonds; look for weather-, UV-, and temperature-resistant specifications and accept that removability and longevity depend on surface preparation and environmental exposure

Clean surfaces with isopropyl alcohol or a mild cleaner to remove dust, oil, and residue, allow full drying, press tape firmly and hold for the manufacturer-recommended time; avoid applying to dirty, damp, or freshly painted surfaces
