Remove bedding and vacuum loose debris, then wipe or wash surfaces with pet-safe cleaner or a mild soap solution; rinse and dry thoroughly to prevent rust or mildew and check hardware regularly for wear

Crating should be limited: puppies under six months typically need breaks every few hours, and adult dogs should not be confined for excessive periods without exercise, bathroom breaks, and interaction; adjust based on your dog’s age, health, and behavior

Useful additions include a washable mat or bed sized to the crate, a leak-proof tray for wire crates, a divider panel for growing puppies, and secure travel latches if you’ll move the crate frequently
