Properly sized, leakproof or reinforced liners can contain moisture and reduce cleaning, but they won't stop litter tracking; using high-sided boxes, litter mats, and dust-free or clumping litters further reduces tracking

Biodegradable or compostable liners reduce long-term plastic waste but vary in strength and degradation conditions; verify if a product is certified compostable and be aware that soiled liners typically should not go into home compost and often require industrial composting to fully break down

Change liners whenever you fully empty and clean the box—commonly once a week for single-cat households or more often for multiple cats; dispose of soiled liners according to local waste rules (many places consider pet waste non-compostable and require regular trash disposal)

Liners do not change how clumping litter binds urine and feces, but slippery liners may shift and bother some cats; choose non-slip or drawstring designs and monitor your cat for any behavioral signs of rejection

Look for pull-tie or drawstring closures, reinforced edges, leakproof bottoms, and thicker gauge material; features like handles or tear-resistant seams make removal cleaner and reduce spill risk
