Filament Tape

Filament tape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape reinforced with fiberglass or polyester filaments for high tensile strength; it is commonly used for pallet bundling, carton and box reinforcement, strapping, and heavy-duty sealing where tear and shear resistance are needed

Choose tensile strength and filament density based on the load and stress—higher tensile (measured in pounds/inch or N/25mm) for heavy bundling; select width based on coverage needed (common widths 1/2" to 2" or more) and use thicker backing or higher filament count for rough or abrasive surfaces

Filament tapes typically use acrylic or hot-melt rubber adhesives; acrylic offers longer outdoor/weather resistance and cleaner aging, while hot-melt rubber provides stronger initial tack and better adhesion to lower-energy surfaces—choose based on surface type and whether outdoor exposure is expected

Handheld dispensers and pistol-grip applicators are common for smaller jobs to improve speed and reduce hand strain; for high-volume or automated lines, look for industrial tape dispensers or machines compatible with filament tape core size and width

Store rolls in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and temperatures extremes (typically 15–25°C/59–77°F), keep them in original packaging until use, and apply to clean, dry surfaces at recommended temperatures to ensure optimal adhesion and strength

Remove dust, oil, moisture, and loose particles from the surface; wear cut-resistant gloves when handling cut filaments, and ensure pressure is applied evenly to activate adhesion while avoiding wrinkles or gaps that reduce strength

Filament tapes range from lower-cost utility grades to higher-performance industrial grades; prices generally reflect differences in filament density, backing thickness, adhesive chemistry, and roll length, with average prices for mid-range industrial options around the tens to low hundreds of dollars per roll or case
