Coverage depends on mix ratio, thickness, and waste; manufacturers list coverage per bag at a given thickness (e.g., square feet at 1/8"); calculate volume needed by multiplying area by desired depth and convert to bag quantities using the bag coverage listed

Higher-priced products often offer faster curing, greater flow for true self-leveling, higher compressive/tensile strength, or integrated moisture control; budget options may be suitable for small repairs or noncritical areas but check technical data for strength and recommended coverings

Cure times vary by product, temperature, humidity, and thickness; many self-leveling compounds accept light foot traffic in a few hours and flooring in 24–72 hours, while cementitious underlayments or thick pours can take several days—always follow the product's stated drying and moisture-equilibrium guidelines

Surfaces must be clean, structurally sound, free of dust, oil, and loose material; repair major cracks, prime porous substrates as recommended, and install bonding agents or primer specified by the manufacturer to ensure adhesion and proper flow

Many compounds are compatible with in-floor radiant heat when the system is turned off and cooled per instructions before application, and some are formulated for wet areas—verify product technical data for thermal compatibility, maximum embedment depth, and moisture resistance or use a vapor barrier if required

Mix with the recommended water ratio and use clean mixing equipment to the specified consistency; use mixed product within its working time, store unopened bags in a cool, dry place, and protect from moisture to prevent premature hardening
