Furniture Pads

Common types include felt pads for hardwood protection and noise reduction, rubber or silicone caps for outdoor/uneven surfaces, and heavy-duty adhesive or screw-on pads for industrial or high-weight applications; choose based on floor type, weight of furniture, and whether you need permanent or removable protection

Select pads large enough to fully cover the furniture leg contact area to distribute weight; thicker pads (3–8 mm or more) offer better shock absorption and vibration damping for heavier items, while thinner felt pads suffice for light chairs and occasional use

Adhesive-backed pads are easy to install and work well on flat, clean bottoms but can wear or leave residue; slip-on or cap-style pads are more secure for round or irregular legs and are better for heavy or frequently moved furniture

Quality felt or rubber pads prevent scratching and reduce wear on floors; to avoid trapped grit causing scratches, keep pads clean and replace them when compressed, torn, or embedded with debris, and test adhesives on an inconspicuous area if concerned about finish reaction

Lifespan varies by material and use—felt pads often last several months to a few years under regular use, thicker rubber pads last longer; replace pads when they are flattened, torn, lose adhesion, or collect abrasive dirt that can't be cleaned

Standard consumer pads may not be rated for industrial loads; for heavy equipment, choose pads or leveling feet specifically rated for high load capacities and designed for vibration isolation or use hard-mounted pads specified for industrial weight ratings

Wipe pads periodically to remove dust and grit, vacuum under furniture to prevent abrasive particles, reapply or replace adhesive pads when edges peel, and inspect rubber or screw-on pads for cracks or compression and replace as needed
