Select a chamber with internal volume and tray area sufficient to hold your largest workpiece plus clearance for tooling; check the rated maximum vacuum level (often expressed in mbar or torr) and pump compatibility, and favor materials and wall thickness that match your pressure differential and durability needs

For degassing silicone and many resin casting tasks, a rough vacuum of 20–100 mbar (15–760 torr) is typically adequate; rotary vane pumps or diaphragm pumps sized for the chamber volume are common choices—verify pump ultimate vacuum and flow rate match the chamber's recommended pump capacity

Look for chambers made of chemical-resistant materials (stainless steel or thick acrylic for visibility), a reliable lid clamp or bolt pattern, a visible vacuum gauge, overpressure protection or burst rating, and clear manufacturer safety instructions regarding thermal loads and explosive vapors

Regularly inspect and replace elastomer seals, clean the interior with compatible solvents after each use, keep fittings and gauges free of residue, and follow the pump manufacturer's maintenance schedule (oil changes or diaphragm replacement) to prevent contamination and leaks

Lab vacuum chambers typically range from lower-cost models under $100 for small acrylic chambers to several hundred dollars for stainless steel units; higher-priced models usually offer stronger construction, deeper vacuum capability, better gauges, and larger volumes

Using solvents or flammable materials can create hazardous vapors; only use chambers rated for chemical exposure, ensure proper ventilation, avoid spark sources, and consult safety data sheets and manufacturer guidance before evacuating volatile substances

Common accessories include a compatible vacuum pump with appropriate tubing and fittings, a vacuum grease or replacement O-rings, a vacuum gauge if not included, sample trays or racks, and a pressure relief valve or check valve to protect the pump
