Select an air bag whose inflated dimensions match the void you need to fill and that fits the width of your shipping boxes; check the bag's maximum inflation size and thickness (mil) to ensure it provides sufficient support and won't puncture under load

Compare materials (single- or multi-layer polyethylene or laminated film), puncture and burst-resistance ratings (psi or kg/cm²), recommended inflation pressure, and compatibility with your air compressor or inflator to ensure durability and safe use

Some air bags are compatible with standard low-pressure compressors or handheld inflators while others require a regulator or dedicated air bag inflator; verify the recommended inflation pressure and connector type before purchasing an inflator

Prices vary by size, material quality, and quantity per pack; expect a range from budget options under $50 for small packs to higher-cost industrial packs, with average product prices in the mid-range depending on brand and film construction

Many air bags can be reused if not punctured; deflate them fully, store flat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sharp objects, and inspect for leaks or seam damage before each reuse

Do not overinflate beyond the manufacturer's recommended pressure, keep bags away from sharp edges and heat sources, secure loads to prevent shifting, and wear eye protection when inflating in case of sudden failure

Estimate the number by measuring void volume and dividing by the inflated volume of a single bag, allowing extra for irregular shapes and to prevent contact between heavy items; testing with a sample box often gives the most accurate count
