For general woodworking, look for motors rated around 12–15 amps (corded) or 18–20V+ batteries (cordless) and blade no-load RPMs commonly between 4,000–6,000; higher amp/voltage and RPMs improve cutting ability through thick or dense materials but also increase weight and power draw

Prioritize a blade guard, electric brake (stops blade quickly), rafter hook or blade-wrench storage, bevel and depth adjustments with clear scales, and comfortable anti-slip handles; look for dust blowers or dust-collection ports if debris control is important

Keep the saw clean and dry, regularly remove built-up sawdust around vents and blade housing, periodically inspect and replace dull or chipped blades, check brush wear on brushed motors, and tighten fasteners and guard mechanisms per the owner's manual

Most manufacturers offer limited warranties covering defects in materials and workmanship for a set period (commonly 1–3 years); compare warranty length, what is excluded (wear items like blades), and availability of replacement parts and service centers

Expect entry-level corded models to start in lower price tiers, while mid-range to professional corded or cordless kit configurations commonly fall in the mid-hundreds; budget additionally for at least one good blade, safety gear (glasses, ear protection), and clamps or a straightedge for accurate cuts
