Cones are usually made from PVC, rubber, or recycled plastic; heavier rubber bases resist tipping and wind, while flexible PVC resists impact. Look for high-visibility colors (orange/fluorescent), reflective bands or sheeting for low-light use, and UV stabilizers for sun resistance

Quantity depends on the layout: small jobs may need 4–6 cones, lane closures or long perimeters often require 10–50 or more. Multi-packs and bulk kits typically lower per-cone cost and can include storage options like stackable designs or carrying handles, making them more practical for recurring use

Store cones upright in a shaded, dry area to reduce UV and heat exposure; clean periodically with mild soap and water to maintain reflectivity, inspect for cracks or missing reflective bands, and replace cones that are warped, cracked, or have compromised visibility

For low-light use choose cones with reflective bands, retroreflective sheeting, or integrated LED lights; ensure the reflective material meets the reflectivity level required by local rules and that batteries or lights are maintained if using active illumination
