Surgical gowns are typically single-use disposable or designated reusable; disposable gowns should be discarded after use per clinical waste protocols, while reusable gowns require manufacturer-specified laundering, inspection for damage, and sterilization if indicated

Prices vary by protection level, material, and sterility—budget options are generally under $50 per gown while higher barrier, sterile, or specialty gowns cost more; higher-priced gowns often feature stronger fluid barriers, reinforced zones, and certified standards compliance

Look for compliance with relevant standards such as AAMI PB70 levels for barrier performance, EN 13795 in some regions, and any facility-specific sterility or documentation requirements; manufacturers should provide performance test data or certification references

Request samples to assess fit and mobility, review barrier level and test reports, confirm compatibility with other PPE (gloves, face shields), check packaging and sterile lot traceability if needed, and compare per-use cost including disposal or laundering
