The number depends on rope diameter and load: common guidance is three or more clips for small diameters, increasing with larger diameters; always follow manufacturer torque and spacing instructions and industry handbooks for the specific rope size and application

Choose clips made of stainless steel for best corrosion resistance, hot-dip galvanized steel for general outdoor use, or plain steel for temporary/indoor use; match clip material to the rope material and the environment (marine, chemical exposure, etc.)

Some manufacturers provide recommended working loads or reduction factors, but clips are typically used in assemblies where the rope’s rated strength and a safety factor govern design; always apply appropriate safety factors and follow standards (e.g., OSHA, industry guidelines) rather than assuming full rope strength when a splice is formed with clips

Install clips with the U-bolt over the dead end and the saddle on the live end unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise, torque nuts to the recommended value, re-torque after initial loading, inspect periodically for corrosion, deformation, or loose nuts, and replace clips showing damage or wear

Avoid mixing brands or materials because different designs, dimensions, and corrosion properties can affect clamping performance; if replacements are needed, use identical-spec clips or consult an engineer or the original manufacturer’s specifications

Wire rope clips are available across a range from lower-cost plain or zinc-plated options under $50 to higher-cost stainless or certified industrial sets; higher-priced clips often use better materials or tighter manufacturing tolerances but always verify material, size, and certification rather than relying on price alone
